More Inner Midlife Adventures

Seems these inner adventures are everywhere, happening to everyone. My mom reminded me today of her powerful “In Here” adventure in January, when she went WAY “Out There” all the way to Egypt to get the inner experience of her life.  As soon as she got to Egypt, after a very long flight from the West Coast, she went out to an Egyptian dinner, very aware of what NOT to eat. She ended up getting so sick, that she had to have 2 I.Vs administered by the hotel doctor for her serious dehydration. “I was so sick, I just pulled the covers over my head and prayed for guidance. Then I went to on this amazing inner adventure, to an incredibly peaceful place. It was one of the most powerful adventures of my life.” Then she promptly boarded a flight home.

So there you go. Adventures come in all shapes, sizes and packages.

Today I had another one of my own powerful inner adventures. My inner adventure guide, Mary Hoffman, once again took me to a place I’ve never explored. She works with the dominant hand (the hand you write with) and the non-dominant hand (the hand you don’t write with) connecting us to the little person we’ve carried with us for decades. As I wrote the questions with my dominant hand (left hand) and answered them with the non-dominant one, tears streaming down, I found myself panning for the gold of my emotions.

I discovered that I keep so much of my vulnerability deep inside the mines of that dark inner self. I’m really good at those “out there” adventures, always able to find my way, make new friends, land on my feet. But when it comes to showing any hurt, that requires deep excavation.

With Mary’s technique, it’s like having one of those geiger counters that zero in on those deeper precious feelings.

Today I hit motherlode, finding precious feelings needing to be cherished, then released.

Wow! I love your metaphores….motherlode, geiger counter etc. Good work. Keep digging….the next thing you will discover will probably be diamonds and more precious jewels. Your little girl will be all dressed up in her tiara, ready to discover more exotic places. She reminds me of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz!
