Stepping Onstage For an Exhilarating Sizzle Chick Adventure! Yikes!
On the way to the Blob Live event Monday evening, I had no idea what to expect, except for an evening of ideas, literally. Blob Live, an extension of Idea Blob, gives entrepreneurs and other creative types the chance to share their projects in front of an audience.
My idea came to me over an incredible weekend of unconferences. What is an unconference? “The format features an open, participatory discussion forum designed to educate, empower, and connect community members” says Laid Off Camp founder, Chris Hutchins. As I sat in the “Creating a Resume” track at Laid Off Camp, listening to the recruiter talk about what to put on a resume, it came to me. The evolution of Laid Off Camp should be ReinventCamp! An unconference to bring people together to reinvent their careers and their life paths. And I was off and running. I got the ReinventCamp.com URL, then created the ReinventCamp webpage and next? Put the word out there. Where better than the Blob Live event?
Sometimes we just have to act and not react. Jump in, take the adventure for the sake of the adventure. This was my chance.
I got up early Monday morning to go to San Diego to work on the documentary about Air Hostesses and Stewardesses. After a long day it was tempting to sit on my comfy couch and go next week to Blob Live. Once again, I remembered all my other Sizzle Chick adventures and knew I had to resist the resistance.
I walked into the comedy club. It was filled with people. A young woman greeted me with “Are you signing up to pitch?” “Yes!” The words leapt out of my mouth, so I just went with it! It was so strange, it was like I was following my own lead. I was second on the list, sure to get up there. Then I couldn’t believe what I heard…
Find out tomorrow what happens when I get called onstage.
